The Walls 2 (First Official Game)

The first official game of The Walls 2 will be played this coming Saturday (6/10/2012) at 5:00 PM UTC (1:00 PM EST). Tell your friends about it and spread the word! We can have up to 12 players per round. Make sure to be there!

First off, I'm sorry that the server has been down for so long (blame my host for that). It's back up now, anyway.

Secondly, we now have TheWalls2 setup! Use the command '/thewalls join' to join the queue for The Walls 2 (Use /thewalls for information on other commands). Games will automatically be started every 15 minutes if there are enough players.

The server has been switched back into online mode and we have removed AuthMe (the registration/login plugin).

Major upcoming site changes

Hello everyone! First, a quick summary of what's been going on recently.

Ever since summer started, there have been less players on overall, but more new players. The decline in general player count is likely due to people going on vacations, and the increase in new players is due to the fact that I posted the server on a few other server lists, including the Minecraft Forums itself (Probably should have done that earlier, heh). Anyway, that's what's going on with the server, in case anyone cares.

More importantly, I will actually be "moving" the website to a different site soon. I say "moving" loosely because it will actually be a completely new site. Unfortunately, this means that all current site members will have to re-register on the new site, and all current forums content will be erased (Not that we had much content on them anyway). The site will have much of the same functionality, but it won't be nearly as limited as it was before. Plus, many people have felt that this current site is a bit drab. For any website techies out there, you may be interested to know that the new site will be powered by WordPress. What does this mean for the rest of us? More functionality, less limits.

I'm also debating the idea of switching the server back into online mode, and instead moving to the concept of mandatory forum registration to actually be able to play. I'd like to hear everyone's thoughts on this, so please leave a comment or email me at hoot893@gmail.com.

Login Bonuses + Upcoming Dynamic Economy

As some of our more frequent visitors have already discovered, I recently added the DailyBonus plugin, which will give you money every day when you login depending on your rank. Here are the bonuses for the different groups:

Default: $512
Builder: $1024
VIP: $2048


As you can clearly see, being ranked will give you much more money. We hope that this will encourage users to logon more frequently, and to use the economy system more.

In other news, I will soon be adding the DynamicEconomy plugin to the server as well. Official plugin description:

DynamicEconomy introduces your server to an economy where
the prices constantly change based on the supply and demand of
items.

To put it simply, prices will fluctuate based on the standard supply and demand method of today's economy. If any of you have ever played the game RuneScape, you may see the relationship between this and the Grand Exchange. I plan to make a sort of central Exchange area, just like in RuneScape, where players will be able to buy and sell goods. This will make the transactions of items a lot easier because you won't have to find a shop that buys or sells a particular item. However, the obvious downside is the supply and demand part, because if too many people try to buy a particular item and hardly anyone sells it, the price will skyrocket, and it may even go out of stock. The same holds true (in reverse) if a lot of people sell the item, but no one buys it. This could also be viewed as a good feature, because it prevents people from spam buying or selling a particular item to make money, as well as many other reasons.

TL;DR: Loads of changes are being made to the overall economy system for the good of the server, and the players. Expect some major adjustments and additions to the economy soon!

More Shop Kiosks

Since 3/4 of our shop kiosks had been purchased, I decided to ready some more of our kiosks for use. There are now 10 kiosks in total, 7 of which are available for purchase. In case you're too lazy to go to the main kiosk, here are the specs:

  • 7x11 indoor space
  • Toggle-able lights

They all cost $20 000, equivalent to approximately 2.5 diamonds, although you might not find a shop which buys diamonds for their full price of $8192. We only accept money, not the equivalent in items.

Flowing Water and Lava in Creative!

I know that a lot of people have been disappointed by the lack of flow of water and lava in the creative world. This was done so that people couldn't really grief with water and lava. However, now that we have much better creative security, we've allowed water and lava flow once again. Please note, however, that you do still need to be a builder or higher to place water or lava.

A GriefPrevention update was released recently, which makes it so that in specified creative worlds, you can only build inside your own claimed land. This means that if you have unclaimed builds that you want to keep building on, you are going to have to claim them. If you don't have enough claim blocks, you can either buy some with /BuyClaim, or ask an admin to give you some.

More appealing spawn area + Shop Kiosks

It has come to my attention that the spawn area looks somewhat ugly due to the fact that it is a swamp biome. So, I decided to get the BiomeEdit plugin, and I then replaced the swamp biome with a forest biome. The spawn area now looks much nicer.



In other news, the official shop kiosks are mostly setup. Check out our prices at the Main Kiosk booth near the town, and contact a super admin if you wish to buy a shop.
